Layover in Anchorage
All the flowers were in full bloom because of the "Midnight Sun" effect. They had 18 hours of sunlight. |
To Start Off
To Start off, I would recommend going to the Information Center on 4th Ave. and F Street. This is the location from where the trolleys leave from, and where most of the cool things that you want to see are, such as the museum, and shops. They also gave away free stickers and postcards. They also gave my brother and sister free buttons with a moose on them and a moose that you could talk pictures with, like a Flat Stanley. They also had postcards that you could write a message on them, and send them to wherever you desired, and they would send them for you for free.
We also went across the street into the Federal Building. In here it had exhibits and Jr. Ranger programs. If you are into the Jr. Ranger Program, they had metal badges! It also had a gift shop where you could get pins, stickers, and many other keepsakes. It was also free to get inside.

The Trolley Ride
The trolley tour was by far my favorite thing that we did. It was $20 per person. Our tour Guide's name was Cole, if you can get him for the tour ride, you should. He was really funny and he told the history of Anchorage in a fun way. We drove all around town, and a little bit outside as well. Outside of town was where we happened to spot a moose and calf.
Later in the day we took the free trolley down to the Ulu factory. The Ulu factory is located near the river, and when my family and I happened to travel here, it was the start of the salmon run. My mom and my brother decided they wanted to fish, so they rented a fishing pole and started to attempt to fish. They didn't catch any fish, but it was a fun way to kill time.
The Farmers Market
The Farmers Market was really fun. There were many booths and I never even saw two of the same thing. It was everything from Coconut Butter to leatherworking. There were a lot of cool things, all of my family agrees that they were asking a little much on some things, so I recommend that if it has a brand name, take a picture of it and see if you can get it cheaper online. There were also many photo-ops throughout the market, and the town itself.
If anyone of you is thinking of going to Anchorage, I hope this helps you narrow down what you want to do. If you already have been to Anchorage, share your travel stories down in the comments!
